Oakbeck School Completion

10/03/2025

Walter Thompson are proud to announce the first phase of a large-scale refurbishment project for North Yorkshire Council has been completed.  Carried out over a four-month period, the transformation saw an existing office building developed into what is now Oakbeck House – a state-of-the-art facility for young adults with complex needs.

The refurbished facility now provides specialist spaces designed to enhance the quality of life for its users. Key features include:

  • Sensory Rooms: Tailored spaces designed to stimulate and engage individuals, helping them to relax in a controlled and focused environment.
  • High Dependency Bathrooms and Toilet Units: Fully accessible bathroom facilities, designed to meet the needs of individuals requiring high levels of care and assistance.
  • Classrooms and Social Rooms: Purpose-built educational and recreational spaces, fostering socialisation and personal development for the young adults utilising the facility.
  • Hoist Facility: A full hoist system has been installed, allowing seamless access between rooms, ensuring individuals with mobility challenges can move freely and comfortably throughout the building.

The redevelopment also includes an enclosed garden area, allowing for outdoor recreation, relaxation, and engagement with nature in a safe and enjoyable space. Staff facilities have also been updated, with dedicated office spaces and welfare areas, as well as secured car parking facilities.

The completion of the first phase of this project marks an important milestone in North Yorkshire Council’s ongoing efforts to improve services for individuals living with complex needs and we are excited to be working together with them on this development. A big well done to all involved and on to the second phase!
